Event Dates
SAM's History During a single digit cold Winter night in late December 2008 we had our first meeting with Pastor Howard Woodruff at Mt. Nittany UM Church. A dream was soon to come true as we laid down a foundation for a new Outreach which was openly accepted by our Church Family our new Friends, far beyond our vision. After numerous planning meetings we filled several key Volunteer positions holding our first SAM Dance in March of 2009 with 91 in attendance. During our first year we experienced many growth opportunities and successes, thanks to our almighty Lord above. All our expectations were filled beyond our prayers desires with some of us sharing tears of joy for a couple that met during our second dance were married in the Fall. Our December Christmas dance of 2009 capped off a successful first year another message from GOD. This dance taught us all that our Outreach Ministry is not about numbers as only 16 attended with a huge snow fall down trees the day before. To our surprise we had one of the best dances of the year as we danced socialized becoming even closer to our faithful Friends from the Altoona area beyond that made the trip.Going into 2010 we ALL felt very blessed knowing that we had touched so many with the blessing of GOD, nearly 300 Dancers from 75 Towns that traveled to us from up to 2 hours away during our first year of 2009. For the new year we continued to keep an open mindset of continuous incremental improvement a new vision of a "More personal music selection" with the use of a Live Band DJ's. Attendance was back into the 70's during the Winter months. During 2010 we held our dances monthly on the 3rd Saturday's with the last three dances held from 7pm until 11pm for an enhanced time. In closing, I would like to highlight one additional very special message from GOD who has brought to us an awesome DJ, a Christian Friend in Jeff Pennycoff from Jersey Shore who has become a key element in bringing the message of GOD to us with his talents as he also performs live during our SAM Dances. Jeff & his Family that assists him are committed to our 2011 monthly dances. Finally, I would like to emphasize our humble Thanks to the Family of Mt. Nittany UM Church & also to our awesome GOD who has blessed each of us on our SAM Dance Committee & so many of our new Friends with this Outreach that has been needed in this area & beyond for decades. |
